Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) is planning to get up a steel processing unit in Himachal Pradesh.
“There is sufficient power in Himachal Pradesh and SAIL will consider setting up a steel processing unit there,” Steel Minister Virbhadra Singh said while talking to reporters in Bhilai this evening.
He said the ministry would review the status of the processing units facing acute shortage of power.
In the last tenure, the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government had laid foundation stones for setting up about half-a-dozen steel processing units in different parts of the country.
The minister said SAIL was a very strong company and had a sound balance sheet. “As far as recession is concerned, the steel sector has not been hurt that bad,” Singh said.
