Sequoia Capital and SONG Advisors, venture capital funds, invested $15 million in Indian education sector firm K12.

K12 manages over 60 schools run by 15 different trusts under the Gowtham Model School and Orchids – the International school brand.

With the investment, KP Balaraj, managing director and Ravishankar G V, principal of Sequoia Capital and Vishal Vasishth of SONG have joined the board of K12.

Sequoia is known for its bets on informational technology companies. The companies portfolio includes global players like Cisco, Google, Oracle, Electronic Arts and Yahoo.

Among Indian companies it has invested in Café Coffee Day, SKS Microfinance, Just Dial and Shaadi.com. ISB based Song Investment Advisors is backed by Soros Economic Development Fund, Omidiyar Network and Google.
