The Union ministry of shipping has asked the Chennai Port Trust (CPT) to give a letter of commitment towards equity portion for the '600-crore Chennai port-Ennore road connectivity project. The ministry also said the project, which was conceived in 1998, will be completed in two years.
Union minister for shipping GK Vasan said, “We have asked the port to give a letter of commitment towards the project.” Its equity portion in the Ennore Manali Road Improvement Project (EMRIP) comes to around Rs 139.8 crore. The port will invest the money as equity portion in the special purpose vehicle created to implement the project.
The EMRIP, which was conceived in 1998 and has been under implementation for the last 10 years, envisages improvement of 30 km road network in north Chennai which connects all the container freight stations (CFS) which handle containers for Chennai port.
