Shimla-based Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd (SJVNL) will build the 80-Megawatt (Mw) Doimukh hydro electric project in Arunachal Pradesh at a cost of Rs 739 crore.

SJVNL chief R P Singh and Kaling Tayeng, secretary, department of power, government of Arunachal Pradesh, signed the memorandum of understanding at Itanagar on Tuesday, a spokesman of the public sector company said here.

"The 80-Mw Doimukh project will be implemented at Rs 739 crore as a run-of-river on the Pare in Arunachal Pradesh," Singh said. "It will generate 291.57 million units (MU) of electricity in a 90 per cent dependable year. Thirteen per cent of the electricity generated will be provided to Arunachal free and the balance sold to other beneficiaries."

The project is estimated to be completed in five years.

SJVN had been entrusted with the works of survey and investigation for preparation of the pre-feasibility report (PFR) of this project in 2012 and the company has successfully submitted the report to the Arunachal government.

SJVNL has three operational projects of 1,959 Mw and 12 projects of 5,100 Mw under various stages of implementation.

Recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had laid the foundation stone for the 600-Mw Kholongchu hydro electric project, to be built by the Shimla-based company in Bhutan.
