TAFE to help train farmers in North East

India's leading tractor maker - Tractors and Farm Equipments Ltd (TAFE), will soon launch an initiative in the North-Eastern Region to help train the farmers on agricultural mechanisations. The Chennai-based company, whose market share in the region is around 20 per cent, claims the initiative to train farmers is just to make the region's farm sector more mechanised and nothing to do with its business goals.  

"Mechanisation will bring about a transformation in the rural landscape of Assam and North-East and has a great potential to improve its productivity standards. The agricultural productivity in the North-Eastern states has been lower than that in other states in India because of a number of reasons, chief being the low levels of mechanisation in the area. We (TAFE) have always worked at ensuring that we offer our customers farm mechanisation solutions that are relevant and cost effective," said TR Kesavan, chief operating officer of TAFE.
