The online food ordering business is witnessing a spurt in demand from non-metro cities and smaller towns as the internet usage has increased.
According to a recent study by Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Assocham) the annual spending of each middle class household on food in India’s tier-II & III cities has increased by Rs 2,500 to Rs 5,200, which clearly hints at a growth of 100 per cent in the last two years.
TastyKhana.in is operating in eight tier I/Metro cities including Pune, Mumbai, Bangalore, Gurgaon, Delhi, Noida, Faridabad and Ghaziabad. Headquartered in Pune, TastyKhana has partnered with over 7,000 restaurants spreading across their national network in 17 cities now.
“By entering into untapped markets of tier II & III cities, we are very optimistic about our company’s growth. Since these markets lacked presence of online food delivery services, making our way to these cities and giving the ease and convenience of ordering food by the click of a mouse to our customers was our goal. With this strategic expansion we aim to fill this gap and cater to the fast growing food needs of the customers,” said Shachin Bhardwaj, CEO & Founder TastyKhana.in
Recently, the company has added features like Google Map which enables the portal to extract the geographical location (address) of the user and launched its iOS mobile application to facilitate food ordering via Apple mobiles.
Bhardwaj added, “Owing to the expansion of our services, there has been an immense variety of cuisines and restaurants that have now been added to our website for patrons to choose from. Moreover with Google Map feature in the website, the process of understanding the location has been further more filtered for our customers.”
Last year, German firm in the food ordering space Delivery Hero partnered with TastyKhana by investing over Rs 30 crore (US$ 5 million).
