Tata Communications has cut down 300 jobs across global operations as part of its review to align business with current business need.

"You have to keep reviewing business and finalise strategy in line with current business prospects. As a result of some of those organisation reviews, we came to a conclusion that certain position in the organisation were redundant. That is why we have to let go off some people," a company source told PTI.

"It (300 job cuts) is around the world, including India and multiple other locations," the source added.

When contacted, the official spokesperson of Tata Communications said: "Tata Communications has made some organisational changes in order to better align the company to its current and future business requirements; these changes have involved some roles in India and overseas becoming redundant."

The spokesperson said that the number is very small compared to around 7,500 workforce that company has globally.

Meanwhile, talking about impact on Indian workforce, the company source said India is the largest base for Tata Communications with around 5,000 employees and hence the proportion of people served pink slip in the country is higher compared to other parts of the world.

When asked whether there are going to be more job cuts, the source said, "I don't see like that. I cant say something like this will happen or not happen. We will have to keep watching our business and market environment. We will keep evaluating our position."
