Tata Docomo expands 1,500 cell sites for Maha, Goa regions

Over the next 100 days, company will be adding another 625 cell sites across GSM; 3G and CDMA platforms

Targeting the rapidly growing mobile networking market, telecom services company, Tata Docomo  is expanding its GSM network by adding 1500 cell sites and extending services to another 902 locations for rest of Maharashtra and Goa region.

Over the next 100 days, company will be adding another 625 cell sites across its GSM, 3G and CDMA technology platforms. With this company is eying customer base of voice and data services.

Also, Tata Docomo is planning to expand footprint to more than 50,000 retail outlets across Maharashtra and Goa region.

Commenting on this, Praveg Gupta, mobility business unit, Maharashtra and Goa region said, "We are the only telecom service provider in the market that offers an integrated portfolio comprising 3G, Photon, GSM and CDMA offerings for consumers as well as enterprises.  This expansion will also enable us to capitalise and further  leadership position in rapidly growing data market on small and large screens across GSM and CDMA platforms."    

He added, "Rest of Maharashtra is the second largest market in terms of revenue for us and growing rapidly. We have became the fourth largest operator by revenue market  share in the region within four years of starting operations."

According to Gupta, Maharashtra is the largest revenue market of the country which generates business Rs  1100 crore every month.

The company also plans to make its Wi-Fi dongles available in the nine circles in which it owns 3G network.

Ten of the towns that would see these launches would be in 3G circles. It plans to leverage its CDMA technology for these services. The operator has a 40 per cent share in the dongles market.
