Without giving the price details of the product, the company said the new Ground Granulated BF Slag (GGBS) product is aimed at increasing the compressive strength and durability of the concrete and also lowering the carbon footprint .
The product, which is cost-effective and sustainable, is blended with ordinary portland cement in ratios ranging from 30:70 to 70:30 to make the ready-mix concrete. The mixing ratio depends on the required strength and nature of the concrete and can cut down the cement cost in concrete by around 30-40%.
Trial supplies of GGBS have been planned in January and based on the market response, a full scale commercial launch can be expected in the next three months, said Tata Steel.
Apart from Jamshedpur, this product will be introduced in other major cities of eastern India like Kolkata, Ranchi, and Bhubaneswar, the company said.
