The move would allow more Indian users to get on the digital payment infrastructure and do small transactions on UPI, including recharging their phone currency. Secured by a two-factor authentication based on RBI guidelines, users can also use Truecaller Pay for pre-paid and post-paid recharges.
With Truecaller Pay, the Swedish company is also pivoting itself from a pure caller identification app to an entity that offers secure payments and video calling with partnership of Google. It also has partnered with Airtel to bring caller ID to hundreds of millions of users.
"While the Truecaller journey is full of new features to help you solve your daily communication needs, for the first time, we are venturing into a territory that goes beyond knowing who is calling, but once again, it's an adventure that touches millions of users," he added."We have been able to build a mobile identity platform and ecosystem that more and more people are relying on a daily basis to build safe and meaningful services on top of it. Today we are finally able to showcase the true potential of Truecaller," said Alan Mamedi, chief executive and co-founder, Truecaller.
Abonty Banerjee, senior general manager and head, Digital Channels, ICICI Bank, believes this feature will extend mobile payment facility through UPI to a larger gamut of people given the user base of Truecaller.
"With this new service, users will get the benefit of making quick and easy payments to any mobile number registered with the BHIM app, thereby enabling them to reach out to a wider section of people. We believe this association will also play a crucial role in strengthening the Government's 'Digital India' mission," said Banerjee.
Truecaller also added a feature that enables users to check instantly who is messaging to filter out spam messages. Another feature is added to send flash messages to any Truecaller user to let them know if the other person is in distress or on your way.
