Within minutes of the announcement, Twitter went abuzz with Cyrus Mistry as the man ‘trended’ worldwide on the social networking site.

Trends on Twitter is a term for the top 10 topics/names that are most talked about at that particular time on the network. Mistry was the third-most talked about person worldwide, minutes after the announcement was made. Ratan Tata, the soon to retire chairman of Tata Sons, came in at fifth.

However, most people were left asking who Mistry actually was. The man is known to keep a low profile and most of the interest generated about him on the network was to know who he was. Wikipedia users also created a page for him, giving details about his life and appointment as Ratan Tata’s successor.

Mistry is the younger son of construction tycoon Pallonji Mistry. He heads his family’s flagship business, Shapoorji Pallonji & Co, as managing director.

Mistry said he would legally disassociate from his family business and would work with Ratan Tata for a year before he takes over.

Deepak Ajwani, director - online and editor (media & entertainment) at Forbes India magazine, wrote on his Twitter page, “It’s all in the family. The Parsi reign at the Tatas continues. Ratan Tata appoints Cyrus Mistry as his successor.”
