Two injured in police firing at Adani's Mundra power plant

Two workers were injured in a police firing on Thursday at Mundra Power Plant in Kutch district following violent protests after the death of a labourer on Tuesday night, police said.

Two policemen were also injured in the stone pelting by an angry mob of over 2,000 workers, they said adding, that nearly 7-8 vehicle were gutted.

JD Vaghela, senior police inspector at Mundra police station, said,“There were violent protest by the workers of the plant following the death of a man on Wednesday. We had controlled the situation last night. The workers were agitated after the contractor refused to pay compensation,” Vaghela told PTI.

“Protest continued this morning. Police fired 12 rounds to disburse the crowd which was getting out of control,” he said, adding the situation was now under control as talks between workers and the management are on.

An official spokesperson at Adani group said, “The labourer who met with an accident was engaged by a contractor. Police resorted to force to normalcy has been restored. The work at power plant is progressing according to the schedule.”
