Ten days back online taxi aggregator Ola announced that it has deployed boats in water logged and partially submerged areas in Chennai - where heavy rain resulted in water logging in a significant portion of the city - based on information provided by the Fire and Rescue Department of the state.
Today, UrbanClap announced that it will give pest control services at various locations in Chennai.
"Several eminent public health experts have even raised concerns that this situation will lead to a rise in cases of dengue, malaria, chikungunya, and other associated diseases. This initiative aims to eliminate the increasing population of mosquitoes and other insects, in households across the city," said the company in an announcement.
Abhiraj Bahl, Co-founder- UrbanClap said, "Over the last few days, the residents of Chennai have come together to weather this crisis. As an organisation that's committed to serving the city of Chennai, we thought we should do our bit by tying up with our partners to offer free pest control services in areas worst affected by the floods."
It may be noted, many of Chennai has submerged in the water after non-stop rain nearly for two weeks. Residents in many places including Velacherry, Pallikaranai, Annanagar, Tambaram and many suburbs in the city are getting evacuated through boats as most of the roads, bridges and services are hit in the rain battered areas.
It may be noted, the worst affected areas are three districts including Chennai. Chennai alone has received the second heaviest monthly rainfall recorded in the past more than 100 years in just the first 20 days of November.
While residents and many welcomed such start-ups and corporates initiatives, some critics says some of them are using for marketing tactic as they get wide publicity all over newspapers, television and social media.
