Very few innovations among kiranas, says Lord Desai
Advocates that FDI in multi-brand retail will help kiranas as it will bring innovations, new practices and so on
Raghavendra Kamath Mumbai There have been very few innovations among Indian kirana stores and big retailers are focussing only on top strarta of population, said renowned economist Lord Meghnad Desai here at the India Retail Forum.
"I have not seen much innovations at corner stores here. But In UK, the Patel Community has revolutionalised the corner stores," Desai said.
"Anybody can innovate. The innovation to carry message on chapatis was a great innovation," Desai added.
Desai said that FDI in multi-brand retail will help kiranas as it will bring innovations, new practices and so on.
"It will not shrink the market. It will grow the market," he said.
