The company proposes to be part of India’s ambitious plan to add 100,000 Mw of solar power capacity. It plans to supply high quality equipment to developers of solar power projects in the country.
President and MD Kimmo Kohtamaki tol Business Standard, “As far as LNG based power projects are concerned, the company is exploring opportunities at the all India level. But, at present projects in Maharashtra, Kerala and Andaman are being pursued. We will jointly develop LNG terminals with local partners and Warstila India will be EPC contractor.” He informed that the company has already delivered on-shore and barge mid size LNG terminals abroad.
Besides, the company is looking at supplying equipment for 40 MW LNG based power plants and also take care of its operations. ‘’We are looking at peaking plants as well,’’ he said. In case of hydro power projects, Wartsila India will pick up servicing contracts but not go for operations.
Kohtamaki said Wartsila India will like to a part of the India’s renewable energy story. ‘’At least on solar side Wartsila India will be involved as equipment supplier as we see good opportunities there. As a beginning looking at solar projects up to 100 MW,’’ he added.
He informed that Wartsila India is also looking for marine market especially in ship building, ship design, special vessels. ‘’Wartsila India hopes to grow at 2 to 5 per cent annually for next five years by taking up projects in LNG terminal, LNG based power plants, ship building, integration of renewables,’’ he notes.
