Weston forays into LCD TV mkt, eyes Rs 800 cr sales

Consumer durable maker Weston today said it is planning to foray into Indian LCD market by next month and is eyeing Rs 800 crore turnover this fiscal from sales across all categories.

"We are targeting to achieve a turnover of Rs 800 crore by the end of the financial year. Besides, the LCD TVs that we are launching, we are pushing all the categories that we are present to achieve it," Weston Vice Chairman Sunil Sethi said.

The company, which had a turnover of over Rs 500 crore last fiscal, said it is also setting up a new production facility in Tamil Nadu, that will be dedicated to manufacturing its LCD TVs.

"We will be doing a soft launch of our LCD TVs by November in Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. Right now, the product is manufactured in our Dehradun plant," he said.

Weston currently has seven manufacturing units in Noida, Dehradun, Mohali and Jammu which produces colour television, DVD, air conditioner, washing machine and set up boxes.

Sethi said the new plant will be completed by the second half of next year and manufacture LCD TVs.

Besides, to gain from the buying sentiments during the festive season, the company said it is giving special offers on purchase of its colour televisions.

The company also said it will focus on the washing machine category and is planing to launch more products in the segment in the coming months.
