Yamaha Motor India has launched YZF R3, a 321cc, liquid-cooled, twin cylinder, 4-stroke performance motorcycle at Rs 3.25 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
On power and pricing terms the Yamaha R3 will compete against Hyosung GT250 and Aquila 250, Benelli TNT 300, Kawasaki Ninja 300, KTM Duke and RC 390 and Honda CBR 250. Royal Enfield's range of 350 cc and 500 cc which are priced below the new Yamaha will also compete with the R3.
The YZF-R3 Sports Model boasts increased displacement and a lighter yet higher-performance chassis. The new product offers agile handling from the lightweight body, mass centralisation measures, etc. It aims to achieve an excellent balance of both high performance and fuel efficiency and a riding position that is good for sporty riding and results in less rider fatigue, a statement from the Japanese company said.
Roy Kurian, Vice President- Sales & Marketing, Yamaha Motor India said :"The YZF-R3 is a model that takes the R-Series technology and know-how Yamaha has accumulated since the original YZF-R1 and brings the world of the YZF lineup to the 320cc displacement class. The YZF-R3 is expected to attract younger racing enthusiasts looking for their first racing bike. Currently the Supersports segment (250cc to 600cc) is doing around 1000 bikes a month and our plan is to attain a 20% market share in the segment."
The new R3 model being will be assembled at India Yamaha Motor's plant with completely knocked down kits imported from Thailand.
