BJP demands 'proper' probe in VVIP helicopter deal

Says government should share details of the preliminary enquiry by the CBI into the issue

BJP today demanded a "proper" probe into the controversial Rs 3,600 crore VVIP helicopter deal and said the government should share details of the preliminary enquiry by the CBI into the issue.

"BJP demands a proper investigation (into the alleged scam). If a preliminary enquiry has been held, the details should be shared," party President Rajnath Singh said here.

The principal opposition party has already been demanding a "time-bound court-monitored CBI inquiry" into the alleged kickbacks in the Rs 3,600 crore Agusta Westland helicopter deal. It has claimed that the CBI inquiry will not yield any result in the UPA regime without monitoring by the court.

BJP has maintained that issue is not restricted to technical specifications but corruption, kickbacks and the government's failure to order timely probe and find out Indian beneficiaries.

The scam surfaced following the arrest of Giuseppe Orsi, the CEO of Finmeccanica, the parent company of AgustaWestland, by Italian authorities on charges of overseeing payments of bribes to help the company's helicopter division win a contract in India.
