"Nobody is above law. If I were the Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court, I would take suo motu cognisance," Ganguly, who is a retired Supreme Court judge, said.
Ganguly, along with educationist Sunanda Sanyal and Congress leader Abdul Mannan, today condenmed the way Trinamool Congress supporters agitated outside the Alipore court premises. "We are also planning to move the Supreme Court against the ruckus created by the Trinamool Congress yesterday. They are trying to undermine the judiciary," Mannan said.
West Bengal minister Madan Mitra, who was arrested by CBI on Friday in connection with the Saradha scam, was yesterday remanded to four days' CBI custody till December 16.
Thousands of Trinamool Congress supporters, mostly from Kamarhati, the Assembly constituency Madan Mitra represents, squatted in front of one the gates of the court, shouted slogans and displayed placards in a show of support to Mitra. They also burnt an effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and tore his pictures.
After the verdict, they stayed put in front of the gate waiting for Mitra and the police had a trying time to find a safe passage for Mitra's car.
TMC supporters clung to the roof rails of the vehicle on both sides and banged the glass windows which were rolled up.
