Haryana adds 9,204 Covid cases, 12 deaths

Haryana on Monday reported 9,204 fresh COVID-19 cases that took its tally to 8,56,102, while 12 more fatalities pushed the death toll to 10,116. The number of active cases in the state stands at 54,814, up from 51,253 a day ago, according to the health department's daily bulletin.

 

Gurgaon, which is the worst-hit district in the state, reported 3,448 fresh cases, followed by 1,435 in Faridabad, 799 in Sonipat, 649 in Panchkula, 401 in Ambala, among others.

 

Of the latest fatalities, four were reported from Karnal, two each from Gurgaon and Yamunanagar and one each from Faridabad, Ambala, Kurukshetra and Fatehabad, the bulletin stated.

India's vaccination coverage crosses 157.91 crore doses

India's cumulative COVID-19 vaccination coverage crossed 157.91 crore doses with over 68 lakh shots being administered on Monday, the Union Health Ministry said.

 

The daily vaccination tally is likely to go up when the final numbers for the day are compiled by late night.

 

More than 50 lakh (50,56,277) precaution doses have been administered to healthcare and frontline workers, and to those aged 60 and above with comorbidities, the data showed.

 

With the latest update, the cumulative number of doses administered in the country reached 1,57,91,63,478, the health ministry data showed.

Karnataka logs 27,156 new Covid cases; 14 deaths

Karnataka has logged 27,156 new Covid cases on Monday, after the second weekend curfew. Also, 14 Covid deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.

 

Officials said that total active cases in the state stood at 2,17,297. The positivity for the day stood at 12.45 per cent.

 

As a result of the weekend curfew, the cases came down to 15,947 in Bengaluru Urban district.

 

The total positive cases in the city stood at 14,32,754.

Maharashtra sees sharp fall in Covid cases at 31,111

Maharashtra on Monday recorded 31,111 fresh coronavirus positive cases, 10,216 less than the day before, and 24 new deaths linked to the infection, the state health department said.

 

With these additions, the state's overall tally of COVID-19 cases rose to 72,42,921, while the death toll jumped to 1,41,832, it said. The number of recovered cases in Maharashtra increased to 68,29,992 after 29,092 patients were discharged during the day, leaving the state with 2,67,334 active cases, the department said. On Sunday, the state had recorded 41,327 cases and 29 fatalities.

Also, 122 new Omicron cases have come to light in the state, raising their tally to 1,860, the department said. A total of 959 patients infected with the highly transmissible variant have already recovered in Maharashtra, it added.

Delhi govt's Covid helpline number receives 12,471 calls from January 10-16

The Delhi government received as many as 12,471 calls on its Covid helpline number 1031 over the last one week, even as the number of calls saw a slight decline from January 13 to January 16.

Data provided by the city health department also showed that between January 10 and January 16, as many as 9,899 calls were received for ambulances.

Meanwhile, Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain on Monday said the number of fresh COVID-19 cases has been reducing in the city for the last few days.

Experts foresee Covid peak on Jan 25 in Karnataka: Minister

The Covid-19 experts in Karnataka expect that the state may witness coronavirus infections touching the peak on January 25 before coming down gradually, Karnataka Revenue Minister R Ashoka said on Monday.

"The experts are of the opinion that the COVID cases may reach the peak on January 25, after which it will gradually decrease. They were also of the view that the state should reduce testing from over two lakh a day to about 1.5 lakh as it does not help much," Ashoka told reporters after the meeting on COVID-19 which was chaired by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.

The minister added that the decision on extending the weekend curfew would be taken in the next emergency meeting on Friday. He, however ruled out any possibility of lockdown in the state.
