Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said in a tweet that he had a 'fruitful' discussion with US President Joe Biden on the coronavirus situation in India.

Coronavirus surge continues in Bihar:11,801 fresh cases, 67 deaths

Total 11,801 more COVID cases were reported in Bihar Monday escalating the virus caseload to 4,15,397, with capital Patna being worst-hit in the state, health department bulletin said.

The state saw 67 fresh casualties, taking the death toll to 2222, it said.

Among the new cases, Patna's share was maximum 2720, while Saran had 568 infections, West Champaran (460), Saharsa (433) and Purnea (384).

Sheikhpura Superintendent of Police Kartikeya K Sharma tested positive and has self isolated himsef.

Concerned over coronavirus surge and experts prediction that cases may further rise in the coming days, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar held a high-level review meeting on COVID situation during the day and issued order to further ramp up test of samples and ensure timely delivery of reports so that treatment of the infected can start at the earliest.

Kumar also instructed officials to take all steps to meet the requirment of medical oxygen for critically ill patients in the government as well as private COVID designated hospitals.

Out of total 4,15,397 positive cases since outbreak of the pandemic last year, Patna has the maximum caseload of 92,939.

Modi-Suga talks: India, Japan to work in close collaboration to deal with COVID-19 crisis

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Japanese counterpart Yoshihide Suga on Monday discussed the COVID-19 crisis and underscored the importance of close cooperation between their countries to overcome the challenges posed by the pandemic.

A readout by the Japanese foreign ministry on the telephonic talks said Prime Minister Suga expressed serious concerns about China's continued and "strengthened" unilateral attempts to change the status quo in the East and South China seas.

A statement issued by India said the two leaders discussed the COVID-19 situation in the respective countries and exchanged views on various regional and global challenges posed by the pandemic.

They highlighted the importance of close India-Japan cooperation to overcome these challenges, such as by working together to create resilient, diversified and trustworthy supply chains, ensuring reliable supply of critical materials and technologies, and developing new partnerships in manufacturing and skill development to deal with the crisis, it added.

55 new COVID-19 cases push Nagaland's tally to 13,238

Nagaland reported 55 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, pushing the coronavirus tally in the state to 13,238, a health official said.

The new cases were reported from Dimapur, Kohima, Mokokchung, Mon, Kiphire and Longleng districts.

"55 +ve cases of COVID-19 reported today. Dimapur- 38, Kohima- 9, Mokokchung & Mon- 3 each, Kiphire- Longleng- 1 each. Also 3 +ve patients have recovered. Phek- 2, Tuensang- 1," said Health Minister S Pangnyu Phom in a tweet.

With three more patients recovering from the disease, the total number of COVID-19 recoveries in the state rose to 12,135, the official said.

ITBP COVID centre with 500 oxygen-beds starts in Delhi; 123 admitted

A COVID care centre with 500 oxygen-supported beds run by the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) began functioning in Delhi from Monday with the admission of 123 patients, officials said.

The facility named Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel COVID Care Centre (SPCCC) has been opened in view of Delhi registering a sharp rise in coronavirus cases, shortage of oxygen beds and its healthcare system creaking under the pressure.

The facility is located at the Radha Soami Beas campus in Chhattarpur area of south Delhi.

The border guarding force has been designated by the Union Home Ministry as the nodal agency to run it.

"The SPCCC has started functioning. 123 patients have been admitted on Monday," ITBP spokesperson Vivek Kumar Pandey said.
