Chhattisgarh records 352 new Covid-19 cases, 10 deaths

Chhattisgarh on Sunday reported 352 fresh coronavirus positive cases and 10 fatalities, taking the infection count to 9,90,675 and the toll to 13,387, a health official said.

 

The number of recoveries reached 9,68,096 after 115 people were discharged from various hospitals while 566 others completed their home isolation stay during the day. The number of active cases in Chhattisgarh now stands at 9,192, the official told reporters.

 

Raipur district recorded 17 new cases, taking its overall caseload to 1,57,004, including 3,125 deaths so far. Bijapur recorded 27 new cases while Sukma and Korba saw 25 cases each, he said. (PTI)

A record 1.32 million get the jab on a single day in Andhra Pradesh

Andhra Pradesh achieved on Sunday what the health authorities feel could be a world record as over 13.26 lakh people were vaccinated from 6 AM to 8 PM in more than 2,200 locations in all 13 districts of the State.

 

Covid Task Force chairman of the State K S Jawahar Reddy said it was a remarkable achievement to vaccinate 1.3 million people in a day under the mega vaccination drive.

 

This showed that our medical team and other staff can take up over one million vaccinations in a day if the government at the Centre maintains the (vaccine) supply, Reddy said. (PTI)

J&K sees 585 Covid cases, 1,354 recoveries

J&K on Sunday saw 1,354 Covid patients recover on Sunday while 585 new cases and 14 deaths were reported during the last 24 hours.

 

Officials said that 123 cases and seven deaths came to light from Jammu division and 462 cases and seven deaths from the Kashmir division.

 

A total of 24 cases of black fungus have also been reported so far. (IANS)

MP sees only 87 new cases, 30 fatalities

Madhya Pradesh on Sunday reported just 87 new COVID-19 cases, the lowest in the recent past, and 30 deaths, taking the tally to 7,89,261 and the toll to 8,767 while 285 patients recovered, the state Health department said. Of the total 52 districts, 24 districts didn't record any new case in the last 24 hours in the state. The overall count of recoveries in Madhya Pradesh now stands at 7,78,280, it said, adding the state is now left with 2,214 active cases.

Mumbai sees 733 cases, 19 deaths, 650 recoveries

Mumbai on Sunday reported 733 fresh coronavirus positive cases and 19 fatalities, taking the tally to 7,21,370 and the toll to 15,298, the city civic body said. A total of 650 patients were discharged during the day, taking the count of recoveries in Mumbai so far to 6,88,990, it said, adding the city is now left with 14,809 active cases.

Haryana to hold mega vaccination drive on International Yoga Day

A mega anti-Covid vaccination drive will be conducted in Haryana on the International Yoga Day on Monday, the state's Health Minister Anil Vij has said. A target has been set to vaccinate 2.5 lakh people during this inoculation drive, Vij told reporters in Ambala on Sunday. Vaccination camps were organised at 61 places in Ambala Cantonment area on Sunday on the directions of the health minister. Vij also appealed to all eligible beneficiaries to get themselves vaccinated.

85,907 vaccine doses administered in Delhi on Saturday: Atishi

A total of 85,907 vaccine doses were administered in the national capital on Saturday of which 52,060 wre give to beneficiaries in the 18 to 44 years age group, Delhi MLA Atishi said.

 

So far, 65,14,825 vaccines have been administered on Saturday and a total of 15,76,775 people have been fully vaccinated, the AAP leader said in the daily vaccination bulletin.

 

On Saturday, 60,443 people were given their first dose of vaccine while 25,464 received the second and final dose.

 

Since May 1, when the Delhi government started vaccination of the 18-44 age group, a total of 1,38,568 people in the segment have been fully vaccinated. (PTI)

Amit Shah to visit three vaccination centres in Gujarat on Monday

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be on a two-day visit to his home state Gujarat from Monday, where he is scheduled to visit three Covid-19 vaccination centres, including one in Ahmedabad, officials said.

 

His visit to the vaccination centres on Monday is aimed at encouraging people to become part of the Gujarat government's mega inoculation drive beginning that day, they said.

 

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) said in a release on Sunday that it plans to vaccinate one lakh people everyday as part of this mega inoculation drive. (PTI)

Pakistan receives 1.55 million doses of China-made vaccine

Pakistan received 1.55 million doses of a China-made coronavirus vaccine on Sunday, as the immunisation drive picks up pace in the country.

 

The National Command and Control Centre, Pakistan (NCOC) said the SinoVac was purchased by Pakistan and consignments were delivered in a plane of the Pakistan International Airlines to Islamabad and Karachi.

 

"China, as a time-tested friend of Pakistan, has taken special measures to ensure the uninterrupted supply of vaccine to Pakistan," the NCOC said. (PTI)

Nepal reports 2,442 new cases

Nepal reported 2,442 new cases of coronavirus, taking the nationwide tally to 621,056, while the death toll rose to 8,675 with 34 more fatalities, heath officials said on Sunday.

 

Of the new infections, 548 were recorded in Kathmandu Valley, the officials said.

 

A total of 42 districts have over 500 active Covid-19 cases. The number is higher in people aged between 20 to 60 years, they said. (PTI)

Haryana extends lockdown till June 28, announces more relaxations

The Haryana government on Sunday extended the Covid-19 lockdown in the state by another week till June 28, but eased restrictions imposed on weddings and funerals, and allowed corporate offices to operate with full attendance.

 

According to an order issued by Chief Secretary Vijai Vardhan, up to 50 guests can now attend weddings and funerals or cremations, up from 21 earlier, subject to strict observance of Covid-19-appropriate behaviour and social distancing.

 

Corporate offices can now open with full attendance but there has to be strict observance of social distancing, Covid-19-appropriate behaviour and regular sanitisation, it said.

 

Weddings can now take place in courts but processions are not allowed, the order said. (PTI)

Life returns to normal in Telangana after 39 days of lockdown

After 39 days, normal activities resumed in Telangana from Sunday with the state government lifting the lockdown totally, following the drastic drop in the number of Covid-19 positive cases.

 

The government has issued unlock orders, allowing all activities that were permitted prior to the imposition of the lockdown.

Carmakers in India's auto hub allowed to operate at full capacity

Global carmakers such as Renault-Nissan, Hyundai Motor Co and Ford Motor Co may operate with their full workforces in India's automaking hub from Sunday, despite worker protests over safety in the pandemic.

 

Tamil Nadu state, one of the country's worst-hit, allowed industrial units with export commitments to operate at 100% capacity, boosting its flourishing automobile industry.

 

New cases in the state have fallen from more than 30,000 a day in May to about 8,000 but still account for one-seventh of all cases in India, which is second only to the United States in total infections.

 

"Any company which exports or supplies to export-oriented industries will be allowed to operate at full capacity as cases have come down," a senior state government official said. Read here

New data suggests low risk of re-infection: PHE

Public Health England (PHE) on Thursday published population surveillance data on possible coronavirus (Covid-19) reinfections and said that the new data suggests a low risk of virus in the population.

 

The data was published to help monitor and understand the risk of people contracting Covid-19 again. The data will be published regularly as part of the PHE Weekly Surveillance Report, according to a release.

 

The current data shows that there is a low risk of reinfection with SARS-CoV-2. There were 15,893 possible reinfections with SARS-CoV-2 identified up to May 30, 2021 in England throughout the pandemic, out of nearly four million people with confirmed infections. This is equivalent to around 0.4 per cent cases becoming reinfected. (ANI)

Uttarakhand: Covid-19 curfew till June 29; hotels and restaurants to open

Uttarakhand government on Sunday announced the extension of the Covid-19 curfew from June 22 to June 29 with certain relaxations, Cabinet Minister Subodh Uniyal informed.

 

The hotels and restaurants in the state have been allowed to operate in-dine services with 50 per cent of their seating capacity between 6 am and 10 pm.

Brazil's Covid death toll tops 500,000

Brazil surpassed half a million Covid-19 deaths after registering 2,301 more fatalities from the fatal disease in the past 24 hours, the Health Ministry said.

 

With the national death toll reaching 500,800, Brazil has become the second country in the world to record more than half a million pandemic deaths, after the US, reports Xinhua news agency.

 

According to the Ministry, a total of 82,288 new infections were detected during the past 24 hours, raising the total caseload to 17,883,750, the world's third largest following the US and India. Read here

Jab for students, those going abroad, Olympics-bound sportspersons from June 22: Karnataka Dy CM

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister C N Ashwath Narayan on Sunday said vaccination for students, those going abroad for studies or work, and sportspersons bound for Tokyo Olympics would start here from June 22 at the city's central college premises.

 

East zone Health Officer has been identified as the competent authority within the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) limits and the second dose of the vaccine for the above groups would be given to those who have completed 28 days after receiving the first dose, Narayan said.

 

The competent authority is entrusted to verify the documents of those who come to get the jab, and also examine the information received from the beneficiaries in the self- declaration certificate form, Annexure-4, and issue the validation letters, the Deputy Chief Minister was quoted as saying by his office in a release. Scale up health infra, speed up vaccination to prevent another surge: WHO to nations

The World Health Organization (WHO) on Sunday called upon countries in its south-east Asia region to scale up public health infrastructure, rigorously implement social measures and make efforts to accelerate vaccination to prevent another COVID-19 surge.

 

This week, Maldives and Myanmar confirmed the transmission of coronavirus variants of concern. Earlier, variants of concern have been confirmed in Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Timor-Leste, the global health body said.

 

The coronavirus variants of concern along with the opening of economies and societies contributed to the recent surge in cases globally.

Pfizer Covid vax provides higher antibody levels than Sinovac: Study

People who got Pfizer's Covid-19 vaccine showed "substantially higher" levels of antibodies compared to those who received China's Sinovac shots, according to a new study.

 

The study, led by University of Hong Kong (HKU), aims to estimate the incidence of natural infections over time and level of population immunity due to infections and vaccinations, the South China Morning Post reported on Saturday.

 

The presence of antibodies is a sign that the vaccine is working to protect an individual, although the quantity of the proteins generated by the body's immune system to identify and neutralise the coronavirus does not directly correlate to the level of immunity, the report said. Read here
