The number of COVID-19 cases in Nagpur increased by 268 on Saturday to reach 1,35,738, while the death toll rose by five and the recovery count by 187, an official said according to PTI. The district has so far seen 4,190 deaths and 1,28,259 recoveries, leaving it with 3,289 active cases, he added.
With 3,954 samples being examined on Saturday, the overall number of tests in Nagpur went up to 10,87,808. The district achieved 45.45 per cent vaccination target, or 1,000 out of 2,200 registered beneficiaries, on Saturday, another official informed.

China has granted conditional approval for its second Covid-19 vaccine, ahead of the expected emergency approval from the WHO for two of its jabs that would enable the country to step-up global supplies of the shots, according to a PTI copy. China's drug regulator has given approval for the conditional mass use of the coronavirus vaccine produced by Chinese pharmaceutical firm Sinovac Biotech.
Sinovac Biotech announced on Saturday that CoronaVac, an inactivated vaccine candidate against COVID-19, received authorisation from the National Medical Products Administration for conditional mass use in China. It is the second locally made vaccine to be given conditional approval. Beijing authorised the state-owned Sinopharm's vaccine in December.
The conditional approval was based on the results of the overseas Phase-III clinical trials of CoronaVac. Final data from the trials has not been made available yet and the results of its efficacy and safety require further confirmation, state-run Global Times said, quoting a Sinovac statement.

Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday recorded 65 new coronavirus cases that raised its tally to 1,24,850, officials said. The union territory did not report any death due to the infection in the past 24 hours, they said. Of the fresh cases, 15 were recorded from the Jammu division and 50 from the Kashmir division, the officials said.
They said Srinagar district recorded the highest of 26 cases which included 11 travellers. While eight districts of the UT did not report any fresh case, 10 others had fresh cases in single digits, the officials said. Pulwama reported 10 COVID-19 cases. The number of active cases is 631 in the union territory, while 1,22,275 patients have recovered so far, the officials said. A total of 1,994 people have died of coronavirus in the union territory so far.

The Covid-19 cases in Indonesia rose by 12,156 within one day to 1,147,010, with the death toll adding by 191 to 31,393, the Health Ministry said on Saturday. According to the ministry, 12,204 more people were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 939,184.
The virus has spread to all the country's 34 provinces. Specifically, within the past 24 hours, West Java recorded 3,971 new cases, Jakarta 2,379, Central Java 1,601, East Java 745 and East Kalimantan 607. No more new positive cases were found in North Maluku province.

Odisha's Covid-19 tally on Saturday mounted to 3,35,548 after 82 more people tested positive for the infection while a fresh fatality pushed the state's coronavirus death toll to 1,909, PTI quoted a health department official as saying. The state during the day launched the second phase of COVID-19 vaccination drive across the state for frontline workers including police personnel, revenue department officials, municipal officials and panchayati raj institution members.
Odisha DGP Abhay became the first among the frontline workers to receive the vaccine at Cuttack while a number of senior IPS officers and district collectors also received the jab. The 82 new cases were detected in 20 of the state's 30 districts, with 49 of them reported from different quarantine centres while the remaining 33 are local contact cases.
Sundergarh recorded the highest 15 new cases followed by Angul (9) and Sambalpur (7). Ten other districts, Bhadrak, Boudh, Dhenkanal, Jagatsinghpur, Kandhamal, Kendrapara, Koraput, Nayagarh, Nabarangpur and Malkangiri, did not register any new cases since Friday.

India has so far supplied COVID-19 vaccine to 15 countries and another 25 nations are in the queue at different levels for the jab, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said here on Saturday, according to PTI. He said there are three categories of countries which are keen to get the vaccine from India- poor, price sensitive nations and other countries which directly deal with pharmaceutical companies that make the antidote.
"I think right now we have already supplied to about 15 countries (as per my recollection). I would say there would be another about 25 countries which are at different stages in the pipeline. But what it has done is today it has put India on the map of the world," Jaishankar told reporters in a press conference.
The minister said some poor countries are being supplied the vaccine on a grant basis while some nations wanted it on par with the price that the Indian Government pays to the vaccine makers. Some countries have directcontractswith the Indian vaccine producing companies and have negotiated commercially, he said.

Telangana reported 161 new Covid-19 cases, 147 discharges, and one death on Friday, as per the state health department. The State Health Department in its Saturday bulletin said the total count of coronavirus cases in the state has increased to 2,95,431 including 2,91,846 discharges. The active cases in the state currently stand at 1,977. Besides, 1,608 deaths have been reported in Telangana till Friday.
Out of the total of 2,95,431 cases, 2,06,802 are asymptomatic while 88,629 are symptomatic. As many as 35,421 samples were tested on Friday and 845 patients are kept under home/institutional isolation. Telangana's recovery rate stands at 98.78 per cent and the case fatality rate is at 0.54 per cent.

More than 54 lakh people have been vaccinated against COVID-19 in the country, the Union Health Ministry said on Saturday. Of the 54,16,849 beneficiaries inoculated, the highest number of people were vaccinated in Uttar Pradesh at 6,73,542, followed by Maharashtra at 4,34,943, Rajasthan at 4,14,422 and Karnataka at 3,60,592. In a statement, the health ministry said India is the fastest country to reach the 50 lakh-mark in COVID-19 vaccination in 21 days.
"In the last 24 hours, 4,57,404 people were vaccinated across 10,502 sessions. A total of 1,06,303 sessions have been conducted so far. It includes 3,01,537 healthcare workers and 1,55,867 frontline workers," the ministry said. It said a total of 20 crore (20,06,72,589) tests have been conducted till now. About 83.3 per cent of the new cases are observed to be concentrated in six states/union territories of Maharashtra, Kerala, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh and Karnataka.

South Korea reported 393 more cases of Covid-19 as of midnight Friday compared to 24 hours ago, raising the total number of infections to 80,524, according to PTI. The daily caseload stayed below 400 for five days out of the past seven days. It showed signs of moderating after peaking at 1,240 on Dec. 25, 2020. The daily number of infections hovered above 100 since Nov. 8 owing to small cluster infections in Seoul and its surrounding Gyeonggi province as well as imported cases.
Of the new cases, 142 were Seoul residents and 108 were residing in Gyeonggi province. Twenty-seven cases were imported from overseas, lifting the combined figure to 6,472.Five more deaths were confirmed, leaving the death toll at 1,464. The total fatality rate stood at 1.82 percent. A total of 388 more patients were discharged from quarantine after making full recovery, pulling up the combined number to 70,505. The total recovery rate was 87.56 percent. The country tested more than 5.89 million people, among whom 5,715,152 tested negative for the virus and 97,677 are being checked.

Mexico announced Friday that Sinovac, the Chinese manufacturer of the CoronaVac vaccine, has submitted paperwork for approval in Mexico. Another Chinese firm, CanSino, has submitted partial paperwork. Foreign Relations Secretary Marcelo Ebrard wrote early Friday that the CanSino vaccine had been applied successfully in the trials and had applied for authorization. But Assistant Health Secretary Hugo Lopez-Gatell later clarified that it had presented only initial documents, noting: They are not yet results" of Phase 3 trials. CanSino has not released any estimated efficacy rate. Mexico would presumably require those figures for approval.

After remaining COVID-19 free for four days the Andaman and Nicobar Islands has reported three new coronavirus cases, an official said on Saturday. The three new COVID-19 cases were detected in South Andaman district on Friday, pushing the coronavirus caseload to 4,997, the official said. The union territory had zero COVID-19 active cases from February 1 to February 4, he said.

China has announced that it will provide half a million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine to Nepal. During a phone call with his Nepali counterpart Pradeep Kumar Gyawali on Friday evening, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi announced that Beijing will provide the 500,000 doses in a grant. During the call, the two Ministers discussed vaccine-related cooperation among others, according to the Foreign Ministry of Nepal. Gyawali said that the Nepali government and people are grateful for China's timely and valuable vaccine aid. Earlier this week, the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu had announced that it would provide 300,000 vaccines to the Himalayan nation.
