"In the backdrop of the Union Government announcing that the quota of subsidised cooking gas cylinders will be raised to 12, the hunger strike being observed by the party at various centres across the state, protesting against rise in prices of LPG gas is being withdrawn," CPI(M) State Secretary Pinarayi Vijayan told reporters.
Claiming that the agitation had received widespread support from all quarters, he said "(government) accepting the slogan of the agitation is not a small thing. We have done our part."
Expressing condolences over the death of Sunanda Pushkar, wife of Minister of State for HRD Shashi Tharoor, he said it was "unfortunate" that none among Congress leaders present in Delhi for the AICC session, except Kodikunnil Suresh, had visited the hotel where she was found dead.
