CVC effects recovery of about Rs 10 crore from govt depts

A recovery of about Rs 10 crore has been effected by Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) on the basis of an investigation into public procurement and other works carried out by various central government departments here.

The recovery of Rs 10.30 crore was made during August.

The CVC has effected recovery of Rs 86.49 crore between January and August this year after conducting about 40 technical examinations of works done by government organisations.

The CVC has also advised imposition of minor penalty against 81 government officials for their alleged involvement in corruption during August, according to its monthly report.

Of these, 15 officials working in Delhi Development Authority (DDA), 11 in Syndicate Bank, eight in Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), six in State Bank of India and five each in Indian Council of Agricultural Research and Punjab National Bank were penalised for alleged graft.

Four officials of Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC), three each of Oriental Bank of Commerce, Ministry of Railways, and two each working in Ministry of Home Affairs, Dena Bank, State Bank of Travancore, UCO Bank and Vijaya Bank were also advised minor penalty for alleged corruption.

"Commission processed 2,036 complaints during the month and sought investigation or factual report in 100 complaints from the concerned ministries, departments or organisations," it said.

It advised issuance of sanction for prosecution in respect of 14 officials of various government departments during August which include an IAS officer (the then Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation).

The Commission had also expressed concerned over continuing delay in filling the post of Chief Vigilance Officers (CVOs) in Air India Charters Ltd(AICL) and Goa Shipyard Ltd.
