DATA STORY: India's Covid-19 tally tops 10 mn; recovery rate at 95.46%

India on Saturday reported a net reduction of 5,080 to bring its count of active coronavirus cases down to 308,751, the lowest level since July 13. With a continuous trend of daily reductions, India’s share of global active coronavirus cases is down at 1.47 per cent (one in 68). The country added 25,152 cases to take its total caseload beyond the 10-million mark, at 10,004,599. And with 347 new fatalities, its Covid-19 death toll reached 145,136, or 1.45 per cent of total confirmed infections.
 
The count of recovered coronavirus cases across India now stands at 9,550,712 – or 95.46 per cent of total caseload – with 29,885 new cured cases being reported on Saturday.

 

• With a daily increase of 25,152 in total cases, India’s tally of coronavirus cases has risen from 9,979,447 on Friday to 10,004,599 – an increase of 0.3%. Death toll has reached 145,136, with 347 fatalities in a day. The eighth-most-affected country by active cases, third by fatality, and second by total and recovered cases, India has added 177,824 cases in the past 7 days.
• India now accounts for 1.47% of all active cases globally (one in every 68 active cases), and 8.61% of all deaths (one in every 12 deaths).
• Backwards from here, the last 1 million cases for India have come in 29 days.
• The count of active cases across India has seen a net decline of 5080, compared with 8535 on Friday. The states that have reported the highest increase in active cases are Kerala (732), Karnataka (175), Bihar (91), Chhattisgarh (81), and Jharkhand (78).
• With 29,885 new daily recoveries, India’s recovery rate has improved to 95.46%; the fatality rate remains unchanged at 1.45%.
• The Indian states and UTs with the worst case fatality rates at present are Punjab (3.19%), Maharashtra (2.57%), and Gujarat (2.26%). The rate in as many as 13 is higher than the national average.
• India’s new daily closed cases stand at 31,425 — 338 deaths and 31,087 recoveries. The share of deaths in total closed cases stands at 1.08%.
• India’s 5-day moving average of daily rate of addition to total cases stands at 0.2%.
• India’s doubling time for total cases stands at 275.4 days, and for deaths at 289.6 days.
• Overall, five states with the biggest 24-hour jump in total cases are Kerala (5456), West Bengal (2239), Maharashtra (1960), Delhi (1418), and Chhattisgarh (1413).
• Among states with more than 25,000 cases, the five with worst recovery rates at present are Himachal Pradesh (86.75%), Kerala (91.09%), Uttarakhand (91.24%), Manipur (92.12%), and Chhattisgarh (92.20%).
• India on Friday conducted 1,172,168 coronavirus tests, taking the total count of tests conducted so far in the country to 160,090,814. The test positivity rate recorded was 2.1%.
• Five states with the highest test positivity rate (TPR) – percentage of tested people turning out to be positive for Covid-19 infection (by cumulative data for tests and cases) – are Maharashtra (15.74%), Goa (13.16%), Chandigarh (11.4%), Nagaland (10.0%), and Kerala (9.59%).
• Five states with the highest TPR by daily numbers for tests and cases added – are Kerala (10.02%), Nagaland (9.84%), Goa (7.06%), Chandigarh (6.82%), and West Bengal (5.29%).
• Among states and UTs with more than 10 million population, five that have carried out the highest number of tests (per million population) are Delhi (385069), J&K (263208), Andhra Pradesh (213216), Kerala (205937), and Karnataka (194875).
• The five most affected states by total cases are Maharashtra (1888767), Karnataka (907123), Andhra Pradesh (877806), Tamil Nadu (804650), and Kerala (693865).
• Maharashtra, the most affected state overall, has reported 1,960 new cases to take its tally to 1,888,767. The state has added 29,400 cases in the past 10 days.
• Karnataka, the second-most-affected state, has reported 1,222 cases to take its tally to 907,123.
• Andhra Pradesh, the third-most-affected state by total cases, added 458 cases to take its tally to 877,806.
• Kerala has added 5,456 cases to take its tally to 693,865.
• Tamil Nadu has seen its tally going up by 1,134 to 804,650.
• Uttar Pradesh has added 1,407 cases to take its tally to 572,196.
• Delhi has added 1,418 cases to take its tally to 614,775.
