DATA STORY: The 5 most affected states account for 52% of India's cured Covid cases

With 509,893 vaccinations on Thursday, India has so far inoculated 4,959,445 people. That is 45.91 per cent of its total caseload, and 0.3573 per cent of its population

India on Friday reported a net reduction of 3,565 to take its count of active coronavirus cases to 151,460, the lowest since June 14 and 85.12 per cent lower than the September 18 peak of 1,017,754. India’s share of global active coronavirus cases has declined to 0.59 per cent (one in 169). The country is 18^th among the most affected countries by active cases. India added 12,408 cases to take its total caseload to 10,802,591. And, with 120 new fatalities, its Covid-19 death toll reached 151,460, or 1.43 per cent of total confirmed infections.
 
With 509,893 more vaccinations across India on Thursday, the total count of those inoculated reached 4,959,445. The count of recovered coronavirus cases across India, meanwhile, reached 10,496,308 – or 97.16 per cent of total caseload – with 15,853 new cured cases being reported on Friday.

 

• With a daily increase of 12,408 in total cases, India’s tally of coronavirus cases has risen from 10,790,183 on Thursday to 10,802,591 – an increase of 0.1%. Death toll has reached 154,823, with 120 fatalities in a day. Now the eighteenth-most-affected country by active cases, fourth by fatality, and second by total and recovered cases, India has added 82,543 cases in the past 7 days.
• India now accounts for 0.59% of all active cases globally (one in every 169 active cases), and 6.75% of all deaths (one in every 15 deaths).
• India has so far vaccinated 4,959,445 people. That is 45.91 per cent of its total caseload, and 0.3573 per cent of its population.
• Backwards from here, the last 1 million cases for India have come in 56 days.
• The count of active cases across India has seen a net reduction of 3,565, compared with 5,032 on Thursday. Five state that have reported the highest net increase in active cases are Himachal (30), Punjab (29), Goa (21), Puducherry (14), and Meghalaya (11).
• With 15,853 new daily recoveries, India’s recovery rate has inched up to 97.16%, while the fatality rate remains unchanged at 1.43%.
• The Indian states and UTs with the worst case fatality rates at present are Punjab (3.24%), Maharashtra (2.52%), and Gujarat (2.21%). The rate in as many as 14 is higher than the national average.
• India’s new daily closed cases stand at 15,973 — 120 deaths and 15,853 recoveries. The share of deaths in total closed cases stands at 0.75%.
• India’s 5-day moving average of daily rate of addition to total cases stands at 0.1%.
• India’s doubling time for total cases stands at 603.1 days, and for deaths at 893.9 days.
• Overall, five states with the biggest 24-hour jump in total cases are Kerala (6102), Maharashtra (2736), Tamil Nadu (494), Karnataka (474), and Chhattisgarh (373).
• Among states with more than 25,000 cases, the five with worst recovery rates at present are Kerala (92.33%), Punjab (95.52%), Maharashtra (95.71%), Uttarakhand (97.24%), and Gujarat (97.26%).
• India on Thursday conducted 715,776 coronavirus tests to take the total count of tests conducted so far in the country to 199,931,795. The test positivity rate recorded was 1.7%.
• Five states with the highest test positivity rate (TPR) – percentage of tested people turning out to be positive for Covid-19 infection (by cumulative data for tests and cases) – are Maharashtra (13.74%), Goa (11.73%), Nagaland (9.66%), Kerala (9.65%), and Chandigarh (9.55%).
• Five states with the highest TPR by daily numbers for tests and cases added – are Kerala (7.26%), Maharashtra (4.82%), Goa (4.08%), Sikkim (2.22%), and Nagaland (2.11%).
• Among states and UTs with more than 10 million population, five that have carried out the highest number of tests (per million population) are Delhi (553529), J&K (350050), Kerala (280600), Karnataka (262835), and Andhra Pradesh (253592).
• The five most affected states by total cases are Maharashtra (2036002), Kerala (950811), Karnataka (941070), Andhra Pradesh (888178), and Tamil Nadu (840360).
• Maharashtra, the most affected state overall, has reported 2,736 new cases to take its tally to 2036002. The state has added 25,054 cases in the past 10 days.
• Kerala, now the second-most-affected state by total tally, has added 6102 cases to take its tally to 950811.
• Karnataka, the third-most-affected state, has reported 474 cases to take its tally to 941070.
• Andhra Pradesh has added 79 cases to take its tally to 888178.
• Tamil Nadu has seen its tally going up by 494 to 840360.
• Delhi has added 158 cases to take its tally to 635639.
• Uttar Pradesh has added 133 cases to take its tally to 600970.
