Facebook is the most preferred social networking site for Hyderabad's Generation Z (GenZ is defined as the group born after 1995) with 84 per cent of the respondents across the city having registered with it, according to Tata Consultancy Services Limited (TCS) GenZ survey 2015-16.

Conducted across 50 schools with a sample size of 1,000 students to capture the digital habits of children between the age group of 12 and 18 years, the survey also observed that Google+ was more popular among the GenZ Hyderabadi girls (78 per cent), as against Facebook (67 per cent).

"Smartphone seems to be the most favoured electronic gadget (84 per cent) among Hyderabad teens. However, it is interesting to note that desktops, home PCs and laptops are the most popular mode of accessing the Internet (48 per cent) followed by smartphones (33 per cent)," V Rajanna, vice-president and regional head, and global head (technology) of TCS, told media persons here on Friday.

Another interesting trend seen among Hyderabad teens is to break-free from organised learning environment and move towards the online learning space indicating the popularity that DIY (do it yourself) and collaborative learning is gaining. Around 19 per cent of the respondents use video chat to learn a new hobby and 28 per cent go online to do school assignments.

Terming Hyderabad as the second-largest IT destination in India, Rajanna said the TCS survey clearly proved that Hyderabad kids were the pool of talent to lead next-generation technologies.

"GenZ youth of Hyderabad are socially collaborative, technologically aware and true digital natives. Our annual survey of high school children across India helps us understand tomorrow's professional and create exciting career learning opportunities for them," he added.
