The labour trouble in Foxconn, the Taiwan-based electronics parts maker, continues to evade a solution, as a fourth round of talks between management, union leaders and assistant labour commissioner of Sriperumbdur remained inconclusive on Friday. The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday.

The employees’ union and the management showed no signs of relenting, sources said. Management maintained the discussions for an amicable solution were on, while the union said it will not accept a voluntary retirement scheme or the severance package offered by the company.

Earlier the management has said that it had held talks with three unions for five times. "A tripartite meeting in front of the Assistant Labour Commissioner, Sriperumbudur, was held on December 12 and December 18. A voluntary retirement scheme or severance package will be decided during the meeting and will be announced to workers,” states the notice.

Senior union officials also stated the management had said that salaries would be given only upto January 31 2015.

It may be recalled that Foxconn announced that it is suspending production at its manufacturing facility near here from December 24 due to lack of orders. About 70% of parts manufactured from the facility were served to telecom major Nokia, which suspended operations at its Sriperumbudur unit from November 1.

About 1,700 employees are apprehensive about the company's decision to suspend operations, fearing job losses.
