“All one has to do is set some emergency contacts and your phone will send them an emergency SMS with a preset message. If your phone can find your approximate location, it will be included as part of the emergency SMS,” Rohan Shravan, founder and chief executive officer of Notion Ink told Business Standard.
To activate sending the emergency SMS via the advertisement-free application, one has to press the power button quickly five times within two seconds. Alternatively, one can open up the app and click on the button that says ‘Send emergency SMS’.
Stating that the SMS was built by simple check boxes enabling the user to add customised texts, Shravan said there was an option to turn off all connectivity services, dim the screen and kill all running apps in case the user is critically low on battery and need to conserve the charge. Notion Ink, which has developed India's first touchscreen tablet 'Adam' using the Android operating system way back in 2009, is currently in the process of unveiling Adam-II, a dual-display tablet for the domestic market in a couple of weeks.
“Besides features, design has always been our major strength. Adam-II will come with a dual display with the secondary screen located on the side bar of the device (like a spine of a magazine), which shows all the notifications or messages that are being displayed on the main screen,” Shravan said.
The soon-to-be-launched Adam-II will have a 10.1-inch touchscreen and runs on Android’s Jelly Bean. Powered by an ARM quad core graphics processor, Adam-II is priced below Rs 16,000. “We are aiming at selling 90,000 units of Adam-II in the first year of launch,” he added.
