The All Galo Students' Union (AGSU) has urged the state government to come up with a concrete policy in order to solve the vexed boundary dispute with Assam permanently.

Taking serious note of the reported directives of Assam officials from Dhemaji district to the villagers of Durpai in West Siang district to vacate their land and not to carry out wet rice cultivation in fields owned by Galo people since time immemorial, AGSU, in a statement today described it unfortunate, unconstitutional and unauthentic.

"It is observed that tense situation within the border between Assam and Arunachal is a handy work of Assam government as there is nothing enmity with the indigenous people of both the state sharing the inter-state boundary in foothills area. The situation becomes volatile whenever the officials from Assam carryout 'unconstitutional' activities by violating the status-quo in the border areas," the statement alleged.

The union appealed the indigenous people living in Assam-Arunachal boundary to maintain peace and preserve their age-old relationships.

It also appealed to all civil societies, NGOs, pressure groups, welfare organizations and students unions to work hard to find an amicable solution to border row between Assam-Arunachal.
