Inaugurating the Krushi Mahotsav in Morbi on Wednesday in her first public appearance after swearing-in as the 15th chief minister of Gujarat, Patel said, "We are aiming to double women dairy co-operative societies this year." Currently, there are 1400 women dairy co-operative societies active in Gujarat.
The state government is also planning to focus more on drip and micro irrigation in Gujarat. "Our state has faced drought situation in every three years. Micro irrigation technology will help the farmers to save their crops in drought or delay in rain. We have to focus to increase drip irrigation in the state," said Patel while adding that the state government will fix a target in every district of the state to increase drip irrigation.
The state government is also working on connecting all the dams and canals with Narmada river so that there will be no water shortage for farmers.
Meanwhile, Patel expressed keenness in bringing back revenue records related to the state from Pune.
Stating that the Gujarat government was keen to bring back documents from Pune, Patel said that Gujarat had got separated from Maharashtra in 1960, post which some documents relating to Gujarat's revenue department could not be brought back and without the documents, the department was facing difficulties.
Further, Patel also said that the state government was hoping to install gates at Sardar Sarovar Narmada dam now that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi had assumed office.
