"There are 6,562 cases pending under trial in various CBI courts across the country under Prevention of Corruption Act as on May 31, 2014," Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions Jitendra Singh said in a reply.
The data provided in his response said 756 cases are pending in NCT of Delhi, followed by 691 in Maharashtra, 646 in West Bengal, 596 in Uttar Pradesh, 474 in Tamil Nadu, 411 in Gujarat and 400 in Karnataka among others.
The reply said cases were disposed off as well as added during the year.
It said the agency has registered 2,220 cases under Prevention of Corruption Act between 2011-14 (up to May 31) of which 1,512 cases have been disposed from investigation and in 708 cases investigation is pending.
"Government has set up 70 additional special courts exclusively for CBI cases under PC Act across the counrty. Also, on the orders of Supreme Court, 22 more such special courts have been sanctioned by the Government of India out of which seven courts have become operational," he said.
The minister said the cases are disposed off by the courts as per due process of law and the Government does not intervene in judicial functioning of the courts.
"However, CBI endeavours through constant monitoring/supervision of its action to ensure that there is no delay in trial," he said.
