Dubbing reports of mass exodus of Hindu families from Kairana village of Uttar Pradesh's Shamli district as unfortunate, NCP leader Tariq Anwar on Sunday cited television reports and said that the residents of the area have left due to lack of employment opportunities.

"If anything of such sort has happened then it is condemnable. If the people in our country have to migrate irrespective of any reason, it is not good and is unfortunate," said Anwar.

"I have heard the statement of the local Superintendent of Police there on television where he has said that no case in this regard has been registered. The people, who have left the village, have fled from the region because there are very less employment opportunities there. And that people of the village have migrated to nearby industrial area in search of jobs," he added.

BJP legislator and Muzaffarnagar riots accused Hukum Singh had earlier reportedly said that Hindus were being forced to leave their homes in the Muslim-majority town.

According to reports, the police have ordered a probe into the alleged migration after Singh presented a list of 346 families from the Muslim-majority town, claiming they had to leave their homes after attacks and extortion attempts.
