Home Minister Rajnath Singh today reviewed the security situation in the country, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir, on the eve of Independence Day.

Top brass of the security establishment briefed him on the prevailing situation in the country and the steps taken to foil any attempt by terrorists and other elements to disturb peace, official sources said.

The meeting specially reviewed the security scenario in Kashmir Valley, which has been witnessing unrest after the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Burhan Wani.

There were intelligence inputs earlier that militants might try to attack security forces in the run up to the Independence Day in Jammu and Kashmir, sources said.

Situation in the national capital was also reviewed as Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the country tomorrow from the ramparts of the Red Fort, where a galaxy of leaders, top civil, defence, police officials, school children and civilians will be present.

Those who attended the meeting include National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Union Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi, and chiefs of intelligence agencies, besides others.
