The Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology, Delhi (IIIT-D) organised a one-day workshop on Smarter and Digital Delhi on February 13 here, to discuss challenges and opportunities for transforming the Capital into a digitally smart city. Director Pankaj Jalote chaired the programme in the presence of Manish Sisodia, deputy chief minister of Delhi, who also inaugurated the event.

The prime purpose of the one-day workshop was to explore solutions to problems such as public transport, parking, pollution, health and other public grievances.

Sisodia, while addressing the audience, said, “Smarter & digital India is a good idea. We need dreamers to actually achieve this vision. Once the dreamers do their work, leaders & investors will follow.”

Jalote said,“We want Delhi to be a smart, advanced, digital, pollution-free and peaceful. Recommendations and guidance of experts from academia and industry will definitely help in this regard.”

The workshop also enabled the Delhi Dialogue Commission (DDC) to have discussions with the researchers and technologists on the contemporary issues. Moreover, public suggestions were also presented before the government of Delhi. It had already been assured that practically feasible ideas will be taken up for the implementation. Moreover, people with the smartest solutions were awarded.

Ashish Khetan, vice chairman of DDC, said, “We need to harness technology to its full potential and to achieve it, we have set three goals -- to bring entire government online, to open data centers of government and to become first-ever paperless administration.”
