India might have a large part of its population living below the poverty line, but that does not seem to be the case with Indians living in the US. They are in fact financially much better off than their peers from other Asian countries, show data from Pew Research Centre.

Not only is the percentage of Indian population living in poverty in the US lower than the average for all Asian countries, but it is much below the comparable numbers for neighbours Pakistan, China and Bangladesh and Vietnam.

According to Pew Research Centre data, only 8 per cent of all Indians living in the US -- whether born in India -- are poor. Among foreign-born Indians living in the US, 7 per cent are poor.

By comparison, the percentages of all Asians, Asian-borns living in the US and Asians born in foreign land but living in the US in poverty are 12 per cent, 11 per cent and 13 per cent, respectively.
