Jharkhand is likely to have its 9th government in June after the state born in November 2000, bifurcating southern Bihar. According to Raj Bhavan sources, the governor Syed Ahmed sent a note to the Union home ministry that no political party seems to be ready to form an alternative government for want of required number of MLAs to establish a government.

Jharkhand is now under President's rule since January 18 following withdrawal of support from the BJP-led Arjun Munda government by Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM). The 81-member assembly has been kept in suspended animation.

After resignation of Arjun Munda government, the only political party - JMM had been trying to form an alternative government with Congress.

In order to achieve the mission the JMM supremo Shibu Soren and his son Hemant Soren made number of trips to Delhi to pursue the Congress high command to receive a green signal to go ahead with formation of an alternative government. However, more than three months had passed since the imposition of the President's rule, the JMM could not collect the magic figure of 42 MLAs in the 81-member house.

In the present assembly, the BJP and JMM have 18 members each. The Ajsu party has six, RJD has five, Jharkhand Vikas Morcha Prajatantrik party has eleven, JD (U) has two, Independents six, CPI (ML) one and MCC one. Forty two is the magic figure of the 81-seat assembly.

Meanwhile, Centre's proposed move for dissolution of the assembly followed by fresh election in June was highly appreciated by most of the political parties in the state.
