Media reports suggested Kanhaiya was punched and kicked inside the court.
This is the second instance when lawyers have resorted to violence outside the Delhi court. On Tuesday, some lawyers beat up JNU teachers and students, as well as several members of the media, on the court campus. In both instances, the assaulters were led by a Vikram Singh Chauhan.
The court is hearing a sedition case against Kanhaiya Kumar, charged after some students raised anti-India slogans during a public meeting on the JNU campus last week.
The assault comes after the Supreme Court today directed the Delhi Police Commissioner to ensure proper and adequate security at the Patiala House court complex.
