Birla has come forward to establish a campus of BITS-Pilani in Visakhapatnam

Aditya Birla Group chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla today met Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

Birla has come forward to establish a campus of the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS-Pilani) in Visakhapatnam, according to a government spokesperson.

Naidu has agreed to give government land if the Birla group decides to establish the institute, the spokesperson said. BITS-Pilani already has a campus in Hyderabad.

With the bifurcation of the state, the AP government expects to bring similar institutes of national repute to the state.

An all-new Indian Institute of Management (IIM), which was granted for AP during the bifurcation process, is set to start its activities from the ensuing academic year in Visakhapatnam.

Andhra University is expected to provide makeshift facilities for the new IIM until a new campus is built for the same.
