India slams OIC for making unwarranted references to J-K

India on Sunday strongly hit out at the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) for making factually incorrect and unwarranted references to Jammu and Kashmir in resolutions adopted by the grouping at a meeting in Niger, and asserted that the union territory is an integral and inalienable part of the country.
 

In a strongly-worded statement, India advised the OIC to refrain from making such references in future and said it is regrettable that the grouping continues to allow itself to be used by a certain country "which has an abominable record on religious tolerance, radicalism and persecution of minorities", a clear reference to Pakistan.

EAM Jaishankar calls on UAE's Prime Minister, discusses post-Covid economic cooperation

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar called on UAE's Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum on Sunday and discussed with him the prospects for economic cooperation between India and the Gulf country in the post-COVID-19 era.
 

Jaishankar thanked Sheikh Mohammed for taking care of the Indian community and underlined that India had been a reliable partner to the UAE in all respects during this difficult period.

Plea in SC to nullify election results if maximum votes in favour of NOTA

A PIL seeking directions to the Election Commission to nullify the election results and hold fresh polls if maximum votes have been polled in favour of NOTA in a particular constituency has been filed in the Supreme Court.
 

The plea filed by BJP leader and advocate Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay has also sought directions to restrict the contesting candidates from taking part in the fresh election, who have participated in the nullified election.

MiG-29K crash: Parts of aircraft located; one pilot still untraceable

Search and rescue teams of the Indian Navy located the turbo charger, fuel tank and some other parts of the MiG-29K fighter aircraft that had crashed into the Arabian Sea, but one of the two pilots remained untraceable, officials said on Sunday.
 

The Indian Navy has deployed nine warships, 14 aircraft and a number of fast interceptor craft as part of the search and rescue mission to trade the missing pilot, they said.

Temperatures drop in several parts of North India

Temperatures in several parts of north India, including Jammu and Kashmir and Rajasthan, were appreciably below the normal on Sunday, with the IMD forecasting a harsher winter for the region and the national capital likely to record its coldest November in at least 10 years.

 

In its all-India bulletin, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) also said that a "well marked low pressure area" lies over southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of south Andaman Sea and equatorial Indian Ocean with associated cyclonic circulation.

 

This is very likely to concentrate into a depression during the next 36 hours and intensify further, it said as it warned fishermen not to venture into central parts of south Bay of Bengal on Monday.

Winter session of legislature likely to be a stormy one

The winter session of the Andhra Pradesh Legislature that begins here on Monday promises to be a stormy affair over a host of issues, particularly the state capital, Polavaram irrigation project and the hike in various taxes.

 

The session is expected to be conducted till December 5, but the exact dates will be decided by the Business Advisory Committees of the respective Houses, Legislature sources said.

Heavy rains and strong winds are expected to lash parts of Kerala in the coming days under the influence of a low pressure area off south Andaman Sea and adjoining Bay of Bengal, with IMD issuing a red alert for Idukki district on Wednesday and fishermen restrained from putting out to sea from the midnight of November 30.

 

The IMD on Sunday issued an Orange alert for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Pathanamthitta districts on December 2 anda yellow alert for Alappuzha, Kottayam and Ernakulam districts on the same day.

Chinese defence minister meets Nepal's top leadership to bolster military cooperation

China's Defence Minister Gen Wei Fenghe on Sunday met Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli and held talks with Nepal Army chief Gen Purna Chandra Thapa on various issues of bilateral interest, aimed at bolstering military cooperation and take the existing friendly ties to a new height.

 

Gen Wei, who is also a State Councillor, held bilateral talks with Army chief Gen Thapa at the army headquarters here during his day-long "working visit" to Nepal, said a statement issued by the Nepal Army.

 

"The two held a cordial discussion on various issues of bilateral interest," it said.

Not in favour of having cells in party on caste basis: Gadkari

Union minister Nitin Gadkari on Sunday said he was not in favour of having cells in a political party on the basis of castes, religions or communities, and added that talent was more important than these factors.

 

He was referring to the cells formed within political parties to represent different castes or communities, like the minority community and Scheduled Caste (SC).

 

The minister was addressing a rally for Sandip Joshi, BJP's graduates' constituency candidate from East Vidarbha.

UK says Brexit trade talks with EU are in their 'last week'

Britain's foreign minister said on Sunday there is only about a week left for the UK and the European Union to strike a post-Brexit trade deal, with fishing rights the major obstacle to an agreement.

 

As talks continued between the two sides in London, Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said "I think we are into the last week or so of substantive negotiations."

 

The UK left the EU early this year, but remained part of the 27-nation bloc's economic embrace during an 11-month transition as the two sides tried to negotiate a new free-trade deal to take effect January 1.

Cost of Tokyo Olympic delay put at about $2 billion

The cost of the one-year postponement of the Tokyo Olympics is estimated to be just under $2 billion, or about 200 billion yen.

 

Japan's Kyodo news agency and the Yomiuri newspaper both reported the figure on Sunday citing unnamed sources close to games organizers.

 

The reported cost of the delay because of the Covid-19 pandemic is in line with repeated estimates over the last several months. The organizers, the Tokyo metro government and the Japanese national government are expected to report next month how the costs will be shared.

 

The International Olympic Committee has said it would chip in about $650 million to cover some of the costs of the delay, but has offered few public details. Tokyo is becoming very expensive.

AirAsia India plans expansion

Budget carrier AirAsia India plans to add three more Airbus A320 neo planes by June next year as part of its fleet and network expansion.

 

The airline -- a joint venture between Tatas and Malaysia's AirAsia Investment Ltd -- currently has 32 aircraft, including two A320 neos inducted recently.

 

In a statement to PTI, an AirAsia India spokesperson said the airline had signed an agreement for inducting five A320 neo planes last year.

Realty majorDLF Ltd has sold nearly 90 independent floors worth over Rs 300 crore in Gurugram and plans to launch more such projects as demand for premium residential properties has revived in last few months.

 

The company plans to launch independent floors in DLF Phase I-IV at Gurugram, New Gurugram and Panchkula among others.

 

"Recently we launched 88 residences in form of premium independent floors (at a price point of Rs 3.75 - 4.25 crores each), spread across 22 plots, in the DLF City Phase 3...in Gurugram. These were sold out in a record time," said Aakash Ohri, Sr Executive Director Sales & Director, DLF.

 

The company plans to launch similar products in Panchkula, Tri-city, New Gurgaon and wherever there is an opportunity in DLF phase 1 to 4, he told PTI.

Bengal guv may soon ask TMC to prove majority in House: BJP MP

With voices of dissent in the TMC getting shriller, BJP MP Saumitra Khan on Sunday took a jibe at the ruling dispensation, claiming that the governor may soon ask West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to prove her majority in the Assembly.

 

The TMC, on its part, said the saffron camp leaders have no respect for the democracy.

The BJP on Sunday released its election manifesto in Urdu for the ongoing District Development Council (DDC) polls in Kashmir.

 

Former MLC Vibhod Gupta released the manifesto in presence of senior party leaders from the Valley such as Sofi Yosuf and Darakhshan Abdrabi.

 

The manifesto claims that while the BJP has unified the country by abrogating provisions of Article 370 and Article 35A that provided special status to the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, the People's Alliance for Gupkar Declaration an amalgam of several mainstream political parties, including NC and PDP was working against the national interest for vote bank politics.

The Covid-19 lockdown came as a "shock" for Sakshi Sharma as coaching classes and schools closed abruptly amid her preparations for the NEET medical exams, leaving her worried that she could have to wait for a year to take the test again.

However, after some days into the lockdown, Sharma and her friends had found an alternative in online classes, which experts say will remain "an all-weather friend" not only for students preparing for competitive exams like the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), but for also imparting education in general in the Covid-19-induced new normal.
 

"It (the lockdown) came as a shock I and many others like me had no idea what to do. We were in the midst of preparing for the exam and the thought of wasting a year was terrifying. But my friends and I immediately shifted our focus to online coaching and were well prepared by September," Sharma, who hails from Chandigarh told PTI over phone.

Minimum temperatures dip in parts of Rajasthan

Night temperatures dipped by a few degrees in parts of Rajasthan, where Mount Abu was recorded as the coldest place with a minimum temperature of 1 degree Celsius, the MeT Department said on Sunday.

 

In the plains, Churu registered a minimum temperature of 4.1 degrees Celsius.

 

Sikar, Bhilwara, Pilani, Dabok and Vanasthali recorded minimum temperatures of 5, 6.8, 6.9, 8.1 and 8.5 degrees Celsius, the weather office said.
