The lawyers in Jammu today resumed court work after ending their 18-day long strike over the assault on an advocate by police officials, after government suspended three cops including a Station House Officer (SHO).

"We have withdrawn the strike after fulfilment of our demand. Government has suspended the cops involved in beating of an advocate. We have resumed the working from today," an official of Bar Association of Jammu (BAJ) said today.

Bowing to pressure from lawyers, the Jammu and Kashmir government yesterday issued an order suspending three policemen including two officers for allegedly manhandling a lawyer here.

The lawyers were on strike for the past 18 days against the cops who allegedly manhandled an advocate Harshvardan Gupta on April 16 in full public view in Nanak Nagar area and also kept him in custody.

On the call given by the BAJ, a bandh was observed in Jammu on May 5 and 72-hour ultimatum was given to the government to suspend the cops.
