Russia expels 40 German diplomatic staff in tit-for-tat move

Russia's foreign ministry said on Monday that it had declared 40 German diplomatic staff "personae non gratae" in a retaliatory move after Berlin expelled the same number of Russian diplomats. In a statement, Russia's foreign ministry said it had taken the decision after Germany on April 4 declared a "significant number" of officials at the Russian embassy in Berlin "undesirable".

One dead after 5 railway stations come under fire in Ukraine

The head of Ukraine's state rail company said that one railway worker had been killed and four injured by Russian missile strikes on five Ukrainian railway stations on Monday. "Throughout the whole war, this was one of the heaviest enemy strikes. It is a systematic strike on five stations. All the strikes came within an hour," Ukrainian Railways head Oleksandr Kamyshin told national television.

The United States will reopen its embassy in Ukraine soon, Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Monday after he and Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin visited Kyiv, promising more military aid and hailing the fight against Russia's invasion. Both men said the fact they were able to come to Kyiv was proof of Ukraine's tenacity in forcing Moscow to abandon an assault on the capital last month, Reuters reported.

Russia investigates oil depot fire

Russia said on Monday it would investigate the cause of a large fire that erupted in the early hours of the morning at an oil storage facility in the city of Bryansk 154 km (96 miles) northeast of the border with Ukraine. Unverified social media footage showed what sounded like two explosions followed by a tower of flames, with one unverified video showing a fire raging around a giant fuel reservoir, Reuters reported.

Unvaccinated people threaten the safety of those who are vaccinated against COVID-19 even when the immunisation rates are high, according to a modelling study published on Monday.

Researchers from the University of Toronto in Canada used a simple model to explore the effect of mixing between unvaccinated and vaccinated people to understand the dynamics of an infectious disease like SARS-CoV-2.

They simulated mixing of like-with-like populations in which people have exclusive contact with others of the same vaccination status as well as random mixing between different groups.

Delhi court takes cognizance of ED charge sheet in Indo-Bangla border cattle smuggling case

A Delhi court has taken cognizance of a charge sheet filed by the Enforcement Directorate against former TMC youth wing leader Vinay Mishra, the alleged kingpin of a cattle smuggling racket across the India-Bangladesh border, Mohammad Enamul Haque and others.

After renaming a couple of places in Madhya Pradesh in the recent past, the state government is now planning to change the name of another town - Nasrullaganj, which is located in Budhni Assembly constituency of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

A proposal to change the name of Nasrullaganj as Bherunda has been sent to the Centre, Chouhan said on Sunday while addressing a sports event in the town, located nearly 90 km from the state capital Bhopal.

Active Covid-19 cases in country rise to 16,522

With 2,541 new coronavirus infections being reported in a day, India's total tally of Covid-19 cases rose to 4,30,60,086, while the active cases increased to 16,522, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Monday.

The death toll climbed to 5,22,223 with 30 fresh fatalities, the data updated at 8 am stated.
