West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today paid tribute to former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 69th birth anniversary.

Banerjee garlanded a portrait of the former premier at the state secretariat.

Tourism minister Krishnendu Narayan Chowdhury, Transport minister Madan Mitra, Chief Secretary Sanjay Mitra and the Home Secretary Basudeb Banerjee also followed suit.

After ending the Left Front's 34-year reign singlehandedly in West Bengal, the Trinamool Congress supremo had recalled the inspiration she had got from Gandhi in her fight against the Marxists when she was state Youth Congress chief.
