Married couple who served just tea ecstatic at being mentioned in Mann Ki Baat

The reason we chose tea was because our PM holds discussion over tea, says the bride Raksha

The Surat couple who grabbed headlines for serving just chaai and paani (tea and water) to their guests on their marriage post demonetisation, felt immensely happy when Prime Minister Narendra Modi mentioned them in his Mann Ki Baat radio programme on Sunday.

Daksha the bride, was overjoyed when the Prime Minister mentioned them.

"We felt extremely happy to hear that Prime Minister Modi was able to get to know about us. It seems our message has reached him. Even our family members are happy," she told ANI.

"The reason we chose tea was because our very own Prime Minister holds discussion over tea (Jis chai pe Modi ji charcha karte hain usi chai pe humne shaadi karnne ka socha)," she added.

In the 26th edition of his Mann Ki Baat programme, Prime Minister Modi yesterday said , "I used to talk about 'Chai pe charcha' during elections; never knew this will reach marriage halls," while adding, "A couple in Surat got married offering just tea.
