Media boycotts AAP conference

This, after mediapeople were banned from entering the Secretariat premises earlier in the day

It was a day of chaos at the Delhi Secretariat office where the newly elected Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) took charge on Saturday.

Furious at the complete ban of media inside the Secretariat premises called by the AAP, media persons demanded answers from Satyendra Jain who is in charge of health and industries.

The press conference was called by the party at 12 pm however Jain arrived at around 2.20 pm.

Media persons protested and demanded an answer to the ban of even accredited journalists inside the Delhi government office.

Jain told the media, “I apologise on the behalf of my party on the inconvenience caused. I have no clue about this issue. I will soon find out and come back."

On rebutting, Jain told media persons that he had “no interest in holding a press conference".

“I am a party worker and I came here to work," Jain said.

Sections of the media decided that till there is no clarity on the issue, there will be no coverage of the party.

Jain said that he faced inconvenience while working in office on Saturday and hence, he had decided to hold this press conference today.

After sometime, Manish Sisodia, the Education and PWD minister, came to media and had a brief discussion with a few media persons.

“It was decided in the meeting that normalcy would be restored from tomorrow. An information officer would be appointed who would look into the concerns of the media”, said Sisodia.

He said that party does not want to do anything that curbs transparency.

Inside the meeting with media people, he had raised concerns of the party workers that there could be ruckus like situation inside the office premises.
