Union Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar on Tuesday said the misunderstanding over his recent speech that allegedly mentioned Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru in the list of freedom fighters hanged by the Britsh arose due to "wrong punctuation".
"I mentioned leaders like Gandhi, Nehru and Subhas Chandra Bose. It was a full stop. In the next sentence, I recounted those who were hanged, jailed and suffered at the hands of the British," he clarified in a tweet.
"There was no confusion in the minds of those who listened. I hope this removes all confusion," the minister said.
A video of Javadekar's recent speech at Chhindwara in Madhya Pradesh went viral in which he is heard saying: "Subhas Chandra Bose, Sardar Patel, Pandit Nehru, Bhagat Singh, Rajguru sabhi phaansi par chadhe (all were hanged)."
"I am amused by the news. I paid my respect to all the freedom fighters since 1857," he tweeted.
