The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) on Monday said most telecom operators failed a call drop test in Ahmedabad, except Airtel 2G, while in Kanpur and Lucknow, a majority met the benchmark, barring BSNL and Reliance Communications CDMA services.

The tests were conducted in Ahmedabad from May 18-20, in Lucknow on May 18-19 and on May 20 in Kanpur.

Trai said in Ahmedabad, only Airtel 2G’s call drop rate of 1.86 per cent met the benchmark of under two per cent. State-run BSNL 3G was the worst offender with a rate of 15.21 per cent, Trai said.

Airtel though failed to meet the benchmark for 3G with a drop rate of 2.34 per cent in Ahmedabad.

In Kanpur most of the operators met the benchmark except BSNL, whose call drop rate stood at 6.04 per cent for 2G and 3.82 per cent for 3G. Reliance CDMA’s drop rate was 3.33 per cent.

In Lucknow, the performance of telcos was much better with only BSNL 2G and Reliance CDMA not meeting the benchmark with drop rates of 3.63 per cent and 2.88 per cent, respectively.

All the operators though have met the call setup success rate in Kanpur and Lucknow whereas in Ahmedabad, only Reliance CDMA failed the test.
