The much-awaited Versova-Andheri- Ghatkopar phase of the Mumbai Metro rail will begin operations from Sunday. The metro will be opened for the public and will run from 5:30 am to midnight. Trains will run at 4 mins frequency and fare will range from Rs 10 to Rs 40. Mumbai's first metro is expected to make 200 to 250 trips per day between Versova on the western suburbs to Ghatkopar in the central suburbs.
The total capacity of the metro is expected to be 11 to 12 lakh passengers daily and each train can carry 1500 passengers at a time.
The Anil Ambani led Mumbai Metro One had cleared the last hurdle on 6th June with the Railway Board giving permission to start commercial operations
