Non-profit organisation, MAPS, to create maritime awareness

MAPS to project the right image of maritime industry, address important issues of shipping and its role in global economy

With an intension to spread maritime awareness amongst masses in the country and to highlight the importance and contribution of this sector, a non-profit organisation Maritime Awareness Program Society was launched today.
 
The role of MAPS will mainly be towards projecting the right image of maritime industry, address important issues of shipping and its role in global economy and environment, Ex Chairman of Shipping Corporation of India Sabyasachi Hajara said at a conference held today.
 
The MAPS members consists of shipping luminaries and is chaired by Sabyasachi Hajara, ex-chairman of Shipping Corporation of India.

At the Maritime Summit 2014 event held here today, MAPS also introduced  a book 'An Introduction to Maritime Industry- Focus on India' into school curriculum with the objective of bringing constructive awareness of the sector among children.
 
MAPS aims to work collectively so that more individuals and companies can be exposed to the positive aspects and derive benefits from this industry, it said.
 
Awareness about maritime industry its underlying transportation system and new trends in leveraging the most cost effective medium of transportation, has to be the top most priority for not only private enterprises but also for public entities and government policy makers, said MAPS. Our country needs new minds to contribute to study, research & innovate on this sector, it added.
